Hi👋🏻 I'm Helena. I'm a Sport Scientist and a Pilates studio owner. Last year I got married to my bestest friend and had a baby boy who is now a very curious, loveable and smiling, happy 14 month old. This year I (finally) finished my Masters degree in Human Movement Science, and I renovated my own space which is now my new Pilates studio.

I teach movement all day, everyday. Pre- and Rehabilitative movement. Functional movement. I get to help my clients understand movement, move better and feel stronger.

🤸🏼‍♀️POSTNATAL PILATES 🤸🏼‍♀️

5 weeks postpartum. Day 1 of exercising.

Exercising while being sleep deprived, is the most difficult thing. To be honest, doing just about anything while being sleep deprived is hard, but I needed to start moving again. It is going to be a long road to recovery, but just look at that cute yellow teddy bear😍 He is all the motivation I need.

5 weeks postpartum. Day 1 of exercising.

Exercising while being sleep deprived, is the most difficult thing. To be honest, doing just about anything while being sleep deprived is hard, but I needed to start moving again. It is going to be a long road to recovery, but just look at that cute yellow teddy bear😍 He is all the motivation I need.

RECOVERY BATH SALTS🧂
Soothe. Relax. Recover.

After telling a few of my clients about the Epsom salt bath I used to take before and after a mountain bike race (and how amazing my joints and muscles felt afterwards), my clients were interested in trying it out for themselves! And so I used my oh so fancy recipe (Magnesium sulphate & Lavender oil) together with some Pink Himalayan sea salt, dried @ludwigsroses petals and Eucalyptus oil, and bottled it up in a fancy jar.

Just dissolve 5x 25ml scoops in a hot bath and soak for 20 minutes. While soaking, enjoy a nice cup of herbal tea to replace lost fluids.

@sagepilatessa studio in Potchefstroom, was the very first Pilates studio I ever taught at, while still busy with my degree (as well as my BASI Pilates certification).

Teaching Pilates at my own studio is now my full time job and it's all thanks to the wonderful opportunity Carine gave me!

I move differently.

And that's OK. As a Pilates instructor you condition yourself to demonstrate the near perfect execution of an exercise. So when my hammie suddenly said no while trying to demonstrate a single leg exercise ball hammie curl, it was such a weird new experience. But, I keep on reminding myself that a little human is growing inside of me and that it's OK to change for a while!🙏🏼

We tried the Reformer Jumpboard for the first time last year in August, when my client was still a bit careful with bending her knees eccentrically (which is what you do when you take the stairs down for instance).

Again, what's wonderful about the reformer is that she can do some impact/landing work with less than body weight before moving on to full body weight jumps on the floor and hopefully someday try a bit of running🤞🏼

2nd TRIMESTER CELEBRATORY GYM SESSION🏋🏼‍♀️

At 6 weeks pregnant, I started feeling extremely tired and nauseous. When I taught Pilates, I sat down on an exercise ball. I went for 15-20min walks here and there. I could play a round of golf, but had to use a cart instead of walking, and also suffered through the consequences afterwards (headaches, exhaustion, vomiting). I felt like my body wasn't my own anymore, and obviously it wasn't👶🏼

7 weeks later, regaining my energy levels and feeling less nauseous, I did a super easy resistance workout, and it felt great! I'm going to try and make the most of this new energy (while it lasts) without overdoing it🙏🏼🤞🏼

MIND-BODY CONNECTION

About Me

My name is Helena. I am a Sport scientist and a Pilates instructor.

I believe living a healthy lifestyle begins with maintaining a strong, fit and functional body. My aim is to help you identify your fitness goals, design a strength exercise program or Pilates session that fits your specific needs, and guide you through every movement, every exercise.

I love teaching my clients how to correct and strengthen movement patterns and form, to build an optimal functioning body.

Pilates

Pilates engages the mind and body in a way that could provide improved movement and overall health. Through using the body, mats and special equipment, Pilates can ensure posture improvement, muscle stabilization, overall flexibility, balance, as well as relaxation to only name a few. Pilates hits your core unlike any other workout! When the body is equipped with good core strength, movement is more efficient, and the body is better protected against injury. Attention to core support, correct body alignment and full body fitness, provide a level of integrative fitness that makes Pilates stand out!
